Goal: To engage our children in the sermon. We want to encourage an open dialogue with our children about the Sunday sermon. This will require them to actively listen and formulate opinions on concepts and ideas being preached.
Today we’ll learn what it means to really love God. How does the Bible say he feels love. And how obeying our parents gets us closer to loving God.
Materials for today’s lesson: (Don’t give these to your children until the very end of the lesson.)

Last week we learned what the word shema means. It means not only to hear or listen, but to respond with obedience. As we learn our next word, ahavah which means love, we see that loving God is not just a feeling. Loving God, like hearing is not just a feeling, but also an action: obedience.
- How did this knowledge help you feel about obeying?
- Did listening to the sermon help you to love God more or less? Why?
- What are some ways you feel love?
